- Ocimum comprises more than 30 species of herbs and shrubs
from the tropical and subtropical regions of Asia, Africa, and Central and
South America, but the main center of diversity appears to be Africa.

tall slender types, large-leafed robust types, dwarf types, compact types,
purpurascens, purple types, citriodorum types.
