Project Profile
  • Coconut oil is unusually rich in short and medium chain fatty acids. Organic coconut oil is extremely beneficial for health, but needs to be used in safe and prescribed measured. Coconut oil, also known as coconut butter, is a tropical oil with many applications. It is extracted from copra (derived from Malayalam word "kopra" which means dried coconut). 
  •   Coconut Oil is traditionally used for cooking, frying and flavoring of foods. Coconut Oil liquefies at body temperature. It leaves no harmful cholesterol in the blood, and it keeps blood flowing freely. It is one of the easiest fats to digest. It is recommended by doctors in the tropics to people that have problems digesting fats. 
  •  Coconut Oil can also be given to babies to relieve coughing and mucus congestion of the chest and head. It is also massaged into the chest and mole of the head for those conditions.
  •  The manufacturing of virgin coconut oil and flour involves two processing methods: Dry process: which involves drying of grinded coconut meat, oil extraction and pulverizing the meal and Wet process: wherein the meat is extracted with milk, drying of the residue and grinding to
  •  produce the flour.

  •  For the extraction of oil from copra the common method still prevailing in our country is by using rotary chucks. But the efficient system of extraction of oil is by the use of expellers.
  •  Using the wet method the grated coconut is mixed with water and then squeezed with a bridge press or using the hands to obtain a coconut oil-water-emulsion.
  •  Coconut oil is an important component in imitation dairy products like filled cheese, coffee, whiteners, milk shake mix chocolate filled with milk; ice cream, desert topping, spray oil for crackers, cookies and cereals. It is used in these products not only because it resists oxidation, but also because it is bland in flavour.

  •  The coconut and sesame oils were obtained from a local health food store. The fatty acid composition of coconut oil and sesame oil used was determined by gas-liquid chromatography.
  •  The dielectric strength of coconut oil is the most important of its electrical properties. The dielectric strength of normal purified coconut oil was found to be about 18 kV to 31 kV. In order to determine the improvement to the dielectric strength of commercial (impure) coconut oil, a heating experiment is used.
  •  In Coconut Oil Fuel Technology Coconut oil can be blended with diesel fuel, and under certain conditions totally replace it. Coconut oil is high in short-chain saturated fatty acids, which means that the oil itself has a high melting point but the resulting biodiesel does not 
  •  The Graff-Off™ product is a naturally derived product based on coconut oil and represents very low volatile organic compounds (VOCs). It is a ready-to-use liquid degreaser designed with a special microemulsion formulation. This unique technology is used for the removal of markings such as graffiti and other contaminants from hard surfaces while leaving the paint undamaged.
  •  Coconut oil price has dropped to Rs 5,050 a quintal from Rs 7,100 a quintal during the same period a year ago. However, this decline of around Rs 2,000 a quintal has not been reflected on the retail prices of branded oil.
  •  Vegetable oils such as coconut oil attract an average tariff internationally of 62 per cent compared with a high for tobacco of 90 per cent and a low for horticultural products of 50 per cent. 
  •  The Philippines is a major producer of coconut oil with exports of 1,080,913 metric tons and a domestic consumption of 464,000 metric tons in 1997(Market Research and Promotion Division, PCA). About 25% of the local demand for coconut oil are used for the production of oleochemicals with most of the remaining used as cooking oil by fast-food chains, restaurants, snack food manufacturers and households.
